DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

About department
The Department of Economics and Social Sciences has been established in 2002. The Manager of the Department is prof. Jerzy Paszkowski. The Department has 24 of academic staff including 4 senior academic staff members and 16 doctors. Scientific interests of members of the Department are focused on social sciences and humanities, including sociology, political science, philosophy, cultural studies, history, ethics, psychology and economics.

Research work
Research and scientific activities of the Department staff concern many areas of social sciences and humanities according to interests and competences of all academic members. Main research extension is strongly related to the social and economic life of Podlasie region. The Department has realized a project "The identity of the diversity of globalization changes of the borderland". The project concerns our region in three research areas: economic, social and cultural and includes inquires on the impact of contemporary globalization changes.

International cooperation
The Department of Economics and Social Sciences  cooperates with the Gediminas Technical University in Vilnius (Lithuania), the National University "Lviv Polytechnic" in Lviv (Ukraine), the Belarusian National Technical University in Brest (Belarus) and the University of Nice (France). The results of the cooperation are international conferences organized by the Department, where scientists from cooperating universities participate. Furthermore the Department staff take part in the annual international scientific conferences organized by the Brest State Technical University.

Didactic work
The Department’s staff form the main part of teaching personnel of political science degree course and provide lectures in other courses of the Faculty of Management. Didactic activity includes areas such as economics, political science, sociology, philosophy and history (complete list of courses is given below). Furthermore the Department provides postgraduates study in social communication and journalism (coordinators: dr Tadeusz Nowak, mgr Marta Dyszkiewicz, www.ksid.pb.edu.pl).
