DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE AND ACCOUNTING

ABOUT DEPARTMENT
Department of Finance and Accounting of the Faculty of Management of Bialystok University of Technology was established in 2000 as a result of organizational changes in the Department of Organization and Management, which started its activities at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and was later incorporated into the Institute of Management and Marketing. From July 6th 2001, by the Minister of National Education’s Ordinance, the Institute of Management and Marketing has been transformed into the Faculty of Management of Bialystok University of Technology. Head of the Department is associate professor Zbigniew Korzeb. The staff of the Department consists of 16 researchers and 1 administrative worker.

RESEARCH WORK

Research is central to the Department of Finance and Accounting activity and focuses on the issues that business leaders and governments face globally. We make effort to maintain our position
as experts and opinion-changers in the field of business and management education.

PRIORITY RESEARCH AREAS:

- Accounting, accountability and corporate governance: specifically financial reporting, corporate governance, performance measurement and management, managerial accounting and control.
- Comparative and international business, linking comparative business systems, international business, employment systems relations, and cultural economy.
- Finance: specifically corporate and banking finance, asset pricing in capital markets, and financial risk management.
- Innovation studies, science and technology policy, linked with entrepreneurship and sustainable environment.
- Public sector policy and management with particular expertise in Health Services.

Many of the achieved results have been the subject of national and international scientific publications, conference presentations and other studies (www.libra.pb.bialystok.pl).

The Department regularly receives funds from European Union, participates in various international projects and carries out research supported from the Dean's and Rector's funds.

SPECIALIZATION: Financial Management and Accounting


The programme of studies enables to gain knowledge about financial aspects of enterprise functioning including various organizational, legal and ownership forms. The important components of this programme are issues covering tax accounting, finance and accounting of small and average enterprises and public organizations. The programme offers the possibility of acquiring knowledge about investing in securities and about the effective calculation of the ways of obtaining capital.
The graduates are equipped with competences to take managerial positions in departments of accounting and management in different entrepreneurial, financial and public organisations.
The graduates can become chartered accountants, entitled among others to verify financial reports of enterprises and other organisations.

STUDENT SCIENTIFIC ASSOCIATION
The student’s scientific association „WinienMa” was established at the Department
of Finance and Accounting. For many years  reunites and brings together students working in finance and accounting or related fields. Supervisor is Anna Dyhdalewicz, PhD. Students are given a unique opportunity to develop their skills and interests.

The mail goals of  „WinienMa” student’s scientific association are followed:
- raising the level of students' knowledge in finance and accounting
- presentation of issues related to finance and accounting in business practice
- cooperation with industry practice, in order to continually improve qualifications and professional experience in finance and accounting
- conducting research in the field of finance and accounting
- cooperation with other universities and professional accountants
- concern for impeccable ethics of the members of the association

R&D COMMERCIAL PROJECTS
Department cooperates with local companies and have completed about 70 expertise in: financial analysis, profitability of investments, corporate finance strategies, regional development strategies and analysis.
